DECEMBER 8, 2019  4:00 PM – Beginning at First Lutheran Church – 25th and Winnie

Mary and Joseph walked from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born in a manger.

This year, as it did for Joseph and Mary, let Advent begin with a pilgrimage.

At its inception, the Galveston Advent Pilgrimage was led by a large tin star made in Mexico that contained a lighted candle. A community procession followed from church to church in the downtown area. That star belonged to The Reverend John Donovan, then Rector of Trinity.  The star that now leads us is a replica of the original but still leads the pilgrimage and is still owned by Trinity.

Bring your friends & neighbors to join this journey towards Christmas

While the pilgrimage is walked among 5 historic churches, people of all faiths (and any who may be searching for a faith or have none) are invited to participate.  A Christmas reading, a prayer and 2 hymns will be sung at each church.  At the conclusion, a reception will be hosted by the Catholic Church at The Knights of Columbus Hall, 1912 Winnie. A van, provided by Moody Methodist Church, will be available for those unable to walk the pilgrimage. The procession begins at:

  • First Lutheran Church – 25th and Winnie
  • First Baptist Church – 23rd and Sealy
  • Trinity Episcopal Church – 22nd and Winnie
  • 1st Presbyterian Church – 19th and Church
  • Mary’s Catholic Cathedral – 21st and Church

Followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1912 Winnie.
